Tool Cabinet Plans: Design From Your Tool Inventory Backward
A tool cabinet is easy to over-design from a picture. The useful version starts with the tools you own, how often you reach for them, the weight they add and the wall or floor structure that will carry the finished cabinet.

Make a tool map before a cut list
Lay out the planes, chisels, measuring tools, drills or accessories the cabinet must hold. Reserve prime eye-level space for frequent tools and leave growth room instead of packing the first layout edge to edge.
Loaded weight changes the mounting decision
A cabinet full of steel tools can be much heavier than the empty box. The plan should make the load path and mounting method clear enough to adapt to the actual wall construction.
Doors consume space twice
Deep door-mounted storage can collide with shelves when closed and with adjacent walls or machines when open. Check both conditions.
Modular interiors age better
Cleats, removable panels or repositionable holders let the cabinet evolve as the tool kit changes. Permanent custom cutouts are tidy but less forgiving.
