Sawhorse Plans: Build the Pair as Measuring Tools
Sawhorses are simple enough that every error is visible. If one is taller, twisted or wider than the other, the pair stops behaving like a reliable support system. That makes them an excellent project for learning repeatability.

Decide fixed, folding or stacking first
Each form solves a different storage problem. Folding designs introduce hardware and pinch points; stacking designs need geometry that nests cleanly; fixed horses trade storage efficiency for simplicity.
Use one master setup for both horses
Cut repeated parts with the same stop or reference wherever possible. Mark a single top length, leg angle and spread as the master rather than measuring every piece independently.
Check the floor contact before final fastening
Set the first horse on a flat surface and verify all feet carry load. A small geometry error can become a wobble once the top is tightened.
Consider a sacrificial top
If you expect to cut sheet goods over the horses, a replaceable strip can protect the main structure from saw kerfs. The plan should make replacement easy.
